21/07/2016: US SECOND LADY VISITS MALAWI

Dr. Jill Biden, wife to the US Vice-President, Joe Biden, made a three-day visit to Malawi from 18th to 20th July 2016. The purpose of the visit was to look into issues of food insecurity Malawi is currently facing and economic empowerment and education opportunities for women and girls.

The visit was successful.

While in Malawi Dr. Jill Biden visited several projects supported by USAID under the Food for Peace Programme in Blantyre, Zomba and Lilongwe. She also visited some primary schools.

She also met with Malawi’s First Lady Dr. Gertrude Mutharika where the two discussed US and Malawi’s shared commitment to empowering women and girls and fighting food insecurity.  The US Second Lady reiterated her country’s commitment to supporting Malawi in these areas.
