09/09/2013: MALAWI EMBASSY OFFICIALS PARTICIPATE IN WASHINGTON DC NATIONS TRI-ATHALON 2013 AS AGE AFRICA'S TRI-TEAM FOR MALAWI

On September 8, 2013 AGE Africa a US c 501 (c) (3) non-profit that supports girls education in Malawi through the provision of education scholarships, a mentoring program and leadership development, for the 4th time participated in the annual Nations Triathalon as the "Tri for Malawi Team".

The fundraising event started with a carb-loading dinner on September 7, 2013 at the Malawi Embassy Chancery on 2408 Massachusetts Avenue in North West DC. The Triathalon participants and their supports were treated to a carb-loading dinner that featured some Malawian cuisine. They also recieved a word of encouragement and thanks from the Malawi Embassy officials and the AGE Africa team.

The Triathalon consisted of a 1.5 mile swim, a 40 mile bike ride and 10 mile run challenge. Team Tri for Malawi consisted of 33 atheletes who were joined by the AGE Africa Board members and His Excellency Ambassador Steve Matenje who did the 40 mile bike ride and Deputy Chief of Mission Jane Nankwenya who did the 10 mile run.

The target of the fundraising event was to riase US$100,000.00, a 100% of which will provide scholarships to 140 young women in secondary school in Malawi. The goal was met and donations are still being recieved. Visit www.ageafrica.org to maka a donation.
