Temporary Residence Permit (TRP)
Who Can Apply?
- A visitor with a valid Visitors/Business Visit Permit who has resided in Malawi for the maximum of 90 days but has legitimate and justifiable reasons for continued residence.
- A foreign national who would like to enter Malawi for short term consultancy or other work related activity. The fee is MK30, 000.00 (U$200) excluding a non-refundable MK10, 000.00 Processing fee.
Temporary Employment Permit (TEP)
This permit is issued to persons before they enter Malawi for the purpose of taking up specified employment in Malawi. A TEP is valid for two years and can be renewed twice through submission of TEP renewal forms to Immigration Offices. An application for renewal must be submitted three months before the expiry of the permit.
Note: All applicants for new TEPs are required by law to wait outside Malawi until their applications have been approved.

Permits
Temporary Employment Permit
On the issuance and on each renewal of Temporary Employment Permit
- In the case of non-governmental organisation: K120,000.00
- In the case of religious organisation: K120,000.00
- In the case of reverends, pastors, priests and such class of persons: K30,000.00
- In all other cases: K120,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
On the extension for each year or part thereof of a Temporary Employment Permit
- In the case of non-governmental organisation: K120,000.00
- In the case of religious organisation: K120,000.00
- In the case of reverends, pastors, priests and such class of persons: K30,000.00
- In all other cases: K120,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
On the inclusion on Temporary Employment Permit of a Permit holder’s
- Spouse: K25,000.00
- Child under twenty-one years of age per child: K25,000.00
- Child over twenty-one years of age per child: K30,000.00
- Dependent who is aged, such as parent, brother, sister and others, per dependent: K50,000.00
- Relation other than the above cases: K60,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
Business Residence Permit
On the issuance and renewal of Business Residence Permit
- For a Business in manufacturing, mining, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and financial sector: K500,000.00
- In all other cases: K1,000,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
On the inclusion on a Business Residence Permit of a holder’s
- Spouse: K50,000.00
- Child under twenty-one years of age per child: K50,000.00
- Child over twenty-one years of age per child: K100,000.00
- Dependant who is aged, such as parent, brother, sister and others, per dependant: K200,000.00
- Relation other than above: K150,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
Permanent Residence Permit
On the issuance of Permanent Residence Permit
- To a wife of a Malawian citizen: K30,000.00
- In all other cases: K800,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
On the inclusion on a Permanent Residence Permit of a Permit holder’s
- Spouse: K100,000.00
- Child under twenty-one years of age, per child: K100,000.00
- Dependant who is aged, such as parent, brother, sister and others, per dependant: K200,000.00
- Non-refundable application fee: K10,000.00
Temporary Residence Permit

- For persons on a Business visit or any visit for gainful activity: K50,000.00
On the issuance of a Temporary Permit
- For the individual: K10,000.00 (Note: this permit is issued to Prohibited Immigrants only)
On the issuance of a Student Permit
- For the individual: K10,000.00
On the inclusion on a permit of a Student Permit holder’s
- Spouse: K10,000.00
- Child under twenty-one years of age: K10,000.00
On the extension of a Visitor's’ Permit after the initial thirty days for
- Up to thirty days: K5,000.00

On the issuance of Certification Letters
- For the individual: K10,000.00
On the issuance of a Restriction Notice

Citizenship
On application by a Commonwealth Citizen or a declared citizen for Registration
